Infusion Endocrinology Position
Performs complex customer service functions related to insurance pre-authorization and scheduling. This includes scheduling and reviewing clinic schedules and obtaining pre-authorization from insurance carriers for specialist visits, clinic-based procedures and courses of treatment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Registers and enters patient registration into the computerized patient care system in accordance with established policies and procedures coordinates patients' appointment schedules (e.g., contact patients to confirm appointments, set up return appointments); mails new information to new patients containing directions, appointment confirmations, and verifies external referrals to the health care facility.
- Review clinic schedules and procedure calendars for visits that require preauthorization. Identifies appropriate procedural and diagnostic coding (as needed) consultation with providers
- Performs insurance pre-authorization for services; Documents authorization in electronic medical record.
- Develops pre-authorization tools / quick reference guides to identify procedures/payers that do not require pre-authorization.
- Participates in departmental/ambulatory / UI Health process improvement teams.
- Attends appropriate in-service training offered by Revenue Integrity to maintain up-to-date knowledge. Serves as a resource for the department for managed care coverage issues.

- Attends appropriate in-service training offered by Revenue Integrity to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
- Initiates, reviews, and monitors clinic service billing to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Serves as a resource for the department for managed care coverage issues.
- Performs insurance pre-authorization for services; Documents authorization in electronic medical record.
- Develops pre-authorization tools / quick reference guides to identify procedures/payers that do not require pre-authorization.
- Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the following categories:
- college coursework in business administration, communications, public relations or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor's degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- responsible work experience in customer services, public relations, office administration, business and financial operations, healthcare administration or other closely related experience
- One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to that gained as a Customer Service Representative
