Position Summary

The Patient Support Technician (PST) is a key member of the care team, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. The PST delivers direct bedside care, assists with activities of daily living, performs selected clinical procedures, and supports unit workflow to ensure a safe, efficient, and positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care using principles of Relationship-Based Care
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal care
  • Perform basic clinical procedures including vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, venipuncture, and 12-lead EKGs
  • Support respiratory care such as oxygen setup, pulse oximetry, incentive spirometry, and nebulizer treatments
  • Observe, recognize, and promptly report changes in patient condition
  • Assist with admissions, documentation, and patient education
  • Maintain accurate medical records using the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Support unit communication, patient flow, and patient safety initiatives
  • Collaborate with nurses, providers, and the interdisciplinary care team

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • High school diploma or GED

    Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)

    • Preferred:
    • 6+ months of direct patient care experience within the past 5 years

      Completion of a Patient Care Technician, CNA, EMT, or similar program

      Medical/Surgical clinical rotation in a nursing program

      Current Michigan EMT licensure, if applicable
