Recreation Customer Services Specialist

Town of Apex invites applications for the position of Recreation Customer Services Specialist.

Expected hiring range: $50,398.40 - $61,755.20

Work location: Apex Senior Center, 63 Hunter St. Apex, NC 27502 USA

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm

What you will be doing:

An employee in this position performs a variety of responsible administrative and heavy public contact duties in recreation programs and facility activities. This position has responsibilities for a variety of financial and night/weekend staffing functions. Work includes utilizing Microsoft Office programs; data entry; filing; serving as contact with the public in person, by phone and by e-mail/internet, including dealing with complaints; relaying program information and making program and dog park reservations; taking fees for services and programs; explaining departmental rules and regulations; performing daily center accounting and bank deposits; enforcing center rules; and records maintenance work. Employees may also schedule and orient LSE employees working during regular shift or after hours. The employee in this position is expected to have a general understanding of the work unit and its services to respond to inquiries and perform the daily functions; nonroutine questions or situations are referred to others. Specific oral and/or written instructions are available to apply to most work situations. This position reports to the Manager of the Community Center, Senior Center, Cultural Arts Center, or Pleasant Park.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

A sample of the essentials:

Provide front desk support at the Apex Senior Center, with a primary focus on interacting with and assisting individuals in the 55+ population/community.

Registers citizens and takes fees for programs, and rentals; makes reservations; explains registration requirements; addresses citizen complaints and concerns by troubleshooting issue or referring to appropriate program staff; gives facility tours.

Accepts and records fees and payments; prepares invoices for vendor payments; performs daily center accounting, processes program and rental refunds and prepares bank deposit.

Operates maintenance software system to alert parks staff to repair and cleaning requirements for various facilities.

Assists departmental staff with special events preparation.

Promotes the facility and programs, events and classes; creates and updates program registration, shelter rental and facility rental forms.

Answers requests for information from customers or the general public who use the Town's services; identifies procedures that address needs or refer customer to proper staff member; follows-up with customers or other processes to insure proper disposition.

Compiles information using standardized forms, procedures, or specific instructions; enters information into spreadsheets, data bases, etc.; uses word processing, spreadsheet and publishing programs; types letters, reports and other materials; proofreads materials.

Drafts and creates letters, reports, and other materials; proofreads materials such as program guide and publications; creates email blasts.

Backs up other departmental personnel, as needed.

May serve as departmental representative on a variety of committees or task forces.

Performs related duties as required.

What you'll need:

High school diploma or GED and less than one (1) year of experience working in recreation.
