Duties Description
Standard Duties: The incumbent will report directly to the Manager of Intergovernmental Affairs and is a member of the Communications Team. The Project Coordinator is responsible for assisting in preparing outreach campaigns to elected officials and executing strategies that advance the policies and goals of the Department. They will assist in creating systems to communicate legislative, policy and regulatory guidance, including marketing materials, constituent assistance and research.
The Project Coordinator will also assist in developing messaging to provide solutions and create new opportunities with policymakers, elected and appointed officials at the city, state, and federal levels to promote the interests of the Department of Labor. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree with emphasis on public administration, political science, government, communications, or related field, AND two years of specialized experience*
Substitution: J.D or master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of specialized experience. PH.D. in a related field may substitute for two years of specialized experience
Preferred Qualifications
• 2-3 years of legislative and/or agency experience working in state and/or federal government, government relations/public affairs, media and or marketing
• Experience with the New York state legislative cycle, engaging with state legislators, attending and reporting on committee hearings
• Demonstrated leadership and strong diplomatic interpersonal skills, excellent judgment and political savviness
• Ability to accurately identify, analyze, and communicate legislative, regulatory and policy issues
• Knowledge and experience with state and federal legislative processes
• Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening skills
• Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.

Additional Comments
Position-specific job duties may include altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.
Candidate may be allowed to telecommute up to two (2) days per week dependent upon operational needs.
