Security Officer
As a Security Officer within our Marine Services team at Great Harbour, you'll play a vital role in keeping people, assets and operations safe. Your work will help protect a site that supports essential services, creating a positive impact on colleagues, customers and the wider community.
This is a hands-on role where trust, attention to detail and sound judgement really matter. By maintaining a safe and secure environment, you'll help ensure operations run smoothly every day — contributing to Serco's purpose of creating impactful solutions and supporting communities that rely on us.
You'll be entrusted to:
- Control site access by operating barriers and directing vehicle traffic as required
- Issue visitor and contractor passes, ensuring site access procedures are followed
- Record vehicle and colleague movements accurately for security and safety purposes
- Patrol the premises, securing buildings, doors and access points
- Maintain an up-to-date record of all personnel on site for emergency situations
- Monitor alarm systems, CCTV and fire alarms, responding appropriately to incidents and drills
- Communicate any irregularities or security concerns promptly to management
- Follow established security procedures while using initiative and good judgement
- Deliver excellent customer service to everyone you interact with on site
You'll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- A valid SIA licence
- SC cleared or have no issues obtaining one
- Knowledge of security operations and procedures
- A strong sense of responsibility and personal drive to do the right thing
- The ability to stay calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
- Clear communication skills and a customer-focused approach
- A commitment to working safely, ethically and with integrity
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
