Transformational Technology Intern

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking motivated college students to join the 2026 Summer Employment Program! Interns will have the opportunity to support projects in areas such as automated vehicles, connected vehicles, machine learning, unmanned aerial systems/advanced air mobility, digital infrastructure, and electric vehicles! As a Transformational Technology Intern, you will gain knowledge of various emerging transportation technologies such as automated vehicles, connected vehicles, and electric vehicles. Specific tasks will include report writing, grant application development, research, strategic planning, website maintenance, and creating Excel documents and PowerPoint presentations. This experience will not only enrich your academic journey but also prepare you for future career opportunities by fostering a deeper appreciation for public service and the complexities of government functions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time internship that will run from May 2026 through August 2026. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Compensation is credit based: Less than 90 credits - $21.23/hour Over 90 credits - $22.13/hour Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Qualifications Internship Requirements: Must be currently enrolled or intending to enroll full-time or part-time in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree, or advanced degree program for the fall semester. Acceptable major: Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline Must be a Pennsylvania resident or currently enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university. In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher). Must be at least 18 years of age. Additional Requirements: You must be able to perform essential job functions.
