The Portfolio Implementation Specialist (6-month contract) plays a pivotal role in translating investment decisions into accurate, timely and compliant portfolio actions. This role is designed for an implementation professional who excels technically while actively building their experience and deepening their understanding of portfolio management through continuous, on-the-job learning within a fixed-term environment. You will act as a trusted partner to Portfolio Managers, Trading, Operations, and Risk; ensuring implementation excellence that directly supports client outcomes.

What You'll Be Trusted With

Portfolio Monitoring & Implementation Excellence

  • Perform daily portfolio checks, including market value, effective cash, cash flows, and asset allocation accuracy.
  • Monitor portfolios against target portfolios, mandates, and investment strategies.
  • Support daily equitisation and portfolio alignment processes.
  • Calculate and implement equity, fixed income, derivative, and foreign exchange trades across multiple portfolio groups, strategies, and currencies.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant execution of investment decisions.

Cash, Flow & Transition Management

  • Manage complex fund cash flows, including take-ons, terminations, and transitions.
  • Execute call account cash trading and foreign exchange transactions.
  • Ensure portfolios remain aligned to target asset allocations and liquidity requirements.

Mandate & Governance

  • Maintain deep expertise in client investment mandates, benchmarks, tracking error limits, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure mandates are correctly implemented and maintained in line with statutory, regulatory, and internal governance standards.

Performance Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to process enhancements, system improvements, and automation initiatives.
  • Analyse large datasets and communicate insights relating to portfolio construction, implementation efficiency, investment universes, and indices.

Who You Are

You are analytical, detail-oriented and proactive, with a strong interest in portfolio management and financial markets. You are comfortable working in a high-pressure environment, value teamwork and are open to learning, feedback and asking for help when needed.

You bring:

  • A BCom Honours (Finance and Investments) or equivalent (mandatory).
  • 3–5 years' relevant experience in the investment or asset management industry (advantageous)
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • A solid understanding of:
    • Investment strategies and portfolio management
    • Financial instruments across asset classes
    • Multi-asset investing and trading (local and global)
    • Mandates, benchmarks, tracking error, and compliance
    • CIS funds and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of Charles River (advantageous).
