Provides administrative and customer service support for Receiving, Outbound and University Mail Services. Responds to customer inquiries regarding both hazardous material and general shipping questions through phone call discussions, e-mail, and in-person meetings. Conducts research with vendors, transportation companies and regulatory agencies to respond to hazardous material transportation regulatory questions. Classifies hazardous materials as well as utilizes shipping software to prepare both outgoing hazardous materials and general shipments for transportation. Performs daily audits of all outgoing shipments for IATA and DOT shipping compliance. Maintains IATA and DOT shipping certificates. Works under minimal supervision and makes decisions according to established policies and procedures; determines and is responsible for ensuring that appropriate action is taken to meet customer requests; follows-up with customers on behalf of unit to ensure correct and positive delivery of service or product; accountable for ensuring customer service standards are met for the area. This position is housed in a warehouse environment and may be physical in nature including occasional lifting or squatting.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent. One year of relevant experience in customer service or communications, including analyzing & interpreting information. Experience in operation of computer and related peripheral equipment. Experience in information research & analysis.
Desired Qualifications:
Two to four (2-4) years of experience in ensuring exceptional customer service in a multi-faceted operation. Strong written and verbal skills combined with high organizational skills are required. Experience in hazardous material transportation regulatory compliance, including conducting and coordinating hazardous material audits and training. Experience working with international dangerous goods transportation regulations (IATA) and knowledge of domestic United States regulatory compliance programs for transportation (DOT). Experience working in transportation logistics with freight forwards/Customs. Knowledge of general operations (PRSM), logistics, and supporting IT solutions, problem solving, team oriented, Workday, SCLogic package tracking system, JIRA issue tracking software. Current DOT Hazardous Material Transportation Training Certification (49 CFR). Current IATA Training Certification.
