Strategic Key Account Manager

My client is a global power-technology manufacturer specializing in innovative new-material solutions for the electric grid. They develop advanced composite products used across transmission, substation, and distribution systems, including composite insulators, crossarms, bushings, and other engineered components designed to improve grid reliability and reduce maintenance needs.

Job Description

Strategic Account Development

  • Develop and execute account strategies for major IOUs across North America.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities in transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.
  • Expand my client's footprint within approved vendor lists and technical specifications.

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Drive sales growth and achieve annual revenue targets.
  • Manage the full sales cycle including opportunity development, technical engagement, proposals, and contract negotiation.
  • Support EPC contractors and utility partners in project-based opportunities.

Utility Qualification & Technical Engagement

  • Lead utility product qualification and vendor approval processes.
  • Deliver technical presentations, coordinate product evaluations, field trials, and demonstrations.
  • Work closely with my client's engineering team to address customer technical requirements.

Relationship Management

  • Build strong relationships with decision-makers and stakeholders in:
    • Transmission & Distribution Engineering
    • Asset Management
    • Procurement & Strategic Sourcing
    • Grid Operations

Market Intelligence

  • Monitor utility capital investment plans, grid modernization initiatives, and regulatory trends.
  • Track competitor activities and emerging opportunities within the utility sector.

Internal Collaboration

  • Collaborate with engineering, marketing, and project management teams to ensure successful project delivery and customer satisfaction.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Strategic Key Account Manager should have:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Business, or a related field.

Experience

  • 5+ years of sales or business development experience within the power transmission & distribution industry.
  • Proven experience working with North American utilities, especially IOUs.
  • Experience supporting utility qualification processes, technical approvals, and specification adoption.

Skills

  • Strong relationship-building and key account management capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of T&D equipment (insulators, line hardware, conductors, or related components).
  • Ability to navigate complex utility organizations and long sales cycles.
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel across the U.S. for customer meetings, industry events, and site visits.
  • Self-motivated and effective in a remote, fast-growing international environment.
