Lab Support Technician I
The Lab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

- Financial Performance:
- Demonstrates stewardship of resources in regards to inventory, time management, and meeting productivity standards
- Demonstrates effective computer skills for both electronic communication and data management
- Creates and uses work aid documents as needed
- Organizes, prioritizes and completes work to meet defined turnaround time and expectations
- Assesses issues that arise and communicates to appropriate stakeholders for resolution, as required
- Participates in effective inventory control as needed
- Workplace Excellence:
- Complies with departmental operational policies to meet staffing plan and department needs
- Displays a spirit of cooperation and concern for all patients, fellow staff members, and providers
- Demonstrates initiative to assist the laboratory and support areas where needed
- Participates in continuing education and staff developmental activities
- Quality:
- Demonstrates and documents competency in areas of assigned responsibility according to CMS guidelines
- Receives and distributes laboratory reports as required under the direction of lab management
- Communicates and documents essential information according to the established policies and procedures
- Identifies, reports, and engages in opportunities for process improvement
- Complies with all safety regulations and requirements (i.e. chemical hygiene plan, exposure control plan, blood borne pathogens)
- Continuing Education:
- Accumulates a minimum of 6 CEU annually Certificate of attendance or sign in sheet required
- Job related or approved by laboratory management
- Completes mandatory courses on time
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum.
- Other: Successful completion of probationary period No active disciplinary actions or active performance improvement plans
- Preferred Education: College level Chemistry, Biology or other Science courses
- Preferred Experience: Previous experience in a clinical laboratory
