Job Summary

Have you led a team of Canadian public practice accountants before?

Are you an accountant capable of acting as trusted advisor to small business owners?

Can you make a meaningful contribution to the growth and success of our firm?

If you answered "Yes" to all of those questions, then this opportunity might be the next big step in your career.

This role supports our team of public practice accountants and our community of hundreds of individual and corporate clients.

As a leader of our team, you will help us to provide an effortless customer experience and constantly look for ways to create value and opportunities for our clients.

Your day will consist of managing multiple projects, leading a team of accounting professionals, meeting deadlines for financial reporting and tax filing, as well as providing our clients the value of professional advice.

This is a fast-paced job so you need to be well-organized and able to prioritize tasks quickly. If you're overwhelmed at the thought of spinning multiple plates, this position isn't for you.

A love of people, problem-solving and developing and managing processes will serve you well in this role.

Knowledge about small business tax planning and advisory services is a requirement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management and Client Services

  • Collaborate with our leadership team to serve 500 to 600 small business owners engaged in annual year end and tax projects, as an outsourced resource for financial accounting and tax compliance
  • Manage recurring projects to ensure service standards and project timelines are met
  • Complete quality assurance reviews of finished projects and uphold the highest quality standards for financial reporting for our clients
  • Provide the value of professional advice and guidance on business improvement and profitable business growth

Leadership and Team Development

  • Provide training, leadership and mentorship to a growing team of accounting professionals, including constant feedback and periodic performance evaluations
  • Manage the performance of your team against the key performance indicators (KPIs) established by the firm, including the preparation and monitoring of regular reports
  • Implement software, systems and tools to improve the efficiency and efficacy of our public practice accounting firm with other members of the firm's leadership team

Business Development

  • Meet with potential clients for accounting and tax services, to present our unique offering, prepare proposals for services, and win new work to help grow our firm.
  • Manage the new client onboarding process to ensure that potential clients are converted into actual clients
  • Identify potential new client opportunities and disqualify opportunities that are a "bad fit" for our firm (I.e., price sensitive, disorganized, late returns)
  • Ensure a seamless integration between our team and our new clients, including communications around expectations and timelines, scheduling work, and initiating and coordinating projects.

Perform all duties as assigned
