The City of Roanoke is seeking a Permit Technician to perform support and technical assistance in a customer service environment that creates a "one-stop service" to citizens, contractors, developers and departments in the review of basic building, zoning and development applications and processes. The successful applicant will process applications and requests for building, zoning and development permits, inspections and certificates/verifications such as: building, zoning, development, subdivision, signs, flood plains, electrical, amusement devices, plumbing, mechanical, certificates of occupancy, cross connection, sewer lateral/connection, street opening, fire alarm/suppression, utility/commercial, storage tank, elevators, demolition and change of use. Issues approval of selected zoning and development permit applications (i.e. minor building additions, pools, fences and decks). High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented with advanced training in building and development; minimum of 2 years experience and demonstrated proficiency as Permit Technician I; must maintain ICC Permit Technician certification.
