Job Title

This is responsible work in providing training and support to personal computer users of the Judiciary of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Duties and Responsibilities

This role involves providing support to personal computer users in their office locations, and includes responsibility for implementation services, and ongoing primary support of information systems. Work also involves application training on tools supported by the network systems, and is performed under the close supervision of a higher level officer of the Information Technology Division.

  • Responds to phone calls for technical assistance; determines user needs and problems and meets with users to discuss those needs.
  • Trains users in the use of personal computer equipment.
  • Ensures that backups and restores occur under the direction of the Network/Systems Administrator, and adheres to designated schedules.
  • Reviews system and history logs to identify system problems.
  • Assists with the installation, training, user support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hardware and software.
  • Participates in modification and enhancement of automated systems.
  • Performs network wiring at Court facilities.
  • Interfaces on a daily basis with users from various divisions regarding changes and/or problems that may affect the performance of the network; serves as liaison for office automation systems and equipment problems.
  • Keeps a log of equipment in use, updates as necessary and verifies equipment slated for disposal; performs inventory control for all court automation equipment and supplies.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains all computer equipment including printers, workstations and software.
  • Assists in maintaining the computer network; sets up new users and computers.
  • Performs system backups; verifies backup by checking system logs.
  • Work with Courtroom recording technology and prepare audio/video footage upon request
  • Performs diagnosis on malfunctioning components, accessories and peripherals.
  • Adds users to network; configures new servers, installs software and links to network.
  • Work in and troubleshoot issues in virtual environments.
  • Prepares progress reports on routine and special projects.
  • Assist with Cyber Security systems hardening
  • Maintaining and updating Information Technology Systems documentation where needed
  • Serves as a member of the Judiciary's Emergency Response team.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

(Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, abilities and skills listed above.)

An associate's degree in Computer Science or a related field and at least one year of practical experience in personal computer support plus some experience in networking and web development. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Licensure and Certification

Possession of a current driver's license valid in the U.S. Virgin Islands is preferred. A+ certification preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of the design, implementation and troubleshooting of a VMware and Microsoft Server Operating Systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Domain Naming System, Windows Internet Naming Service and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol architecture, design analysis and performance tools.
  • Basic knowledge of the Court's business processes supported by the network systems.
  • Some knowledge of the development, updating, and enhancement of web pages and the use of web components, forms, tools, and interactive forms
  • Considerable knowledge of desktop operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • Considerable knowledge of personal computer and printer capabilities.
  • Considerable knowledge of personal computer application software.
  • Ability to distinguish between software of equipment issues and employee training needs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Skilled in the operation of personal computers and related equipment.
  • Ability to work outside traditional work hours (ie: weekends and after hours) and assume additional tasks if the need arises.
  • Strong customer service skills.
