Jefferson-Madison Regional Library is seeking candidates to be considered for the position of Technical Services Specialist for the Central Library who are highly motivated and who support JMRL's Mission Statement to foster personal growth and life-long learning for all by connecting people with ideas, information, and each other. The preferred starting salary for this position is $17.27 hourly ($35,921.60 annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience and internal equity. This full-time position performs work receiving, processing, and preparing materials for circulation, entering data into integrated library system database, at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (JMRL). Job Knowledge: Basic familiarity with the work to know common principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems. Working knowledge of library principles, practices, and procedures. Working knowledge of computer hardware and Microsoft Office software applications.
Reading: Intermediate: ability to read and understand written materials such as newspapers, magazines, journals, multi-step instruction manuals, and reference materials.
Writing: Intermediate: Ability to write reports, prepare materials such as business letters, explanations, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
Math: Intermediate: Ability to work with and understand number systems; simple formulas, practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, and measurement such as technical specifications.
Communication Skills: Basic: Provide standard information to and interacts with others outside direct reporting relationships on procedures or general policies. Interaction requires recognizing different points of view to ensure understanding and appropriate response. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.
Independence and Decision-Making: Requires General Direction: Normally performs the job by following general instructions or established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is some discretion when making decisions among a few easily identifiable choices of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance is reviewed frequently.
Technical Skills: Skilled: Comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the assigned and apparent job responsibilities. Intermediate skill in Microsoft Office applications and/or departmental software.
