Position Description

The Minneapolis Convention Center (MCC) is a relationship building. Each individual at MCC is a hospitality hero who fulfills our mission by providing service and fostering relationships. 1. Shift will be from 6:00am – 2:00pm, Friday through Monday (32 hours/week).

2. Shift will be from 2:00-10:00 PM, Thursday through Monday (40 hours/week).

Salary Expectations

Anticipated starting salary range: $30.030 - $36.499 /hour, depending on qualifications.

Pay Differential

This position is scheduled on a 24 hour basis, therefore shift differential is applied in addition to the above salary for appropriate shifts. Employees who actually work a schedule with a full shift that begins between 12:00 p.m. and 2:59 a.m., or anytime on Saturday or Sunday shall be paid an additional $1.488 per hour for all hours worked on such a shift. Shifts that begins between 3:00 p.m. and 5:59 a.m. shall be paid an additional $1.697 per hour for all hours worked on such shift.

Work Location

This position works on-site only.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Uphold the standards of service outlined in our IMPACT statement and City of Minneapolis policy.
  2. Ensure security provider contract compliance and implement department policies and direction.
  3. Monitor all internal life safety and security systems with the goal of proactively preventing issues/incidents.
  4. Monitor external information systems to ensure that the Convention Center Command Center and Management Team are aware of external issues, potential or real threats, and severe weather situations.
  5. Document all incidents/activity with clear, detailed communication that is easily understood and archived for future use.
  6. Dispatch and monitor response times of incidents by internal and external agencies toward a goal of three-minute response times.
  7. Manage equipment inventory to ensure that levels are maintained and in good working order, while also ensuring that equipment is used only by authorized individuals.
  8. Maintain access control systems, and access through work orders or special request, to ensure specific spaces are secure when required
  9. Maintain CCTV system and accommodate video review requests with regards to city data policies.
  10. Act as the Convention Center's 24-hour call center to provide information to all stakeholders with an emphasis on prompt customer service, superb communication, and efficiency of task completion.
  11. Look up information and resolve issues/questions quickly, by using tools such as printed documents, event information software, the internet, and inter-department relationships
  12. Accept, log, store, and disperse lost and found items per department policy., acting as contact for all lost and found requests.Monitor building and event activity; and all department staff, leadership, and guest levels in the building, and how chain of command fluctuates during different work shifts and events.
  13. Perform functions and act as the Manager on Duty in the absence of higher-level staff.
  14. Maintain and organize Shipping & Receiving inventory and holding space.
  15. Enter drayage information and generate invoicing in the event information software

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION High School Diploma or GED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE Two Years of related customer service experience LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

1. Forklift training and certification. 2. Electrical Lift training and certification. 3. NIMS/ICS online courses: ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800. 4. Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Certification.

Selection Process

The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

Background Check

The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.

Drug and Alcohol Testing

All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.

Union Representation

Eligible List Statement

The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire 3 (three) months after it has been established.

Interview Selection

The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Computer skills and competence with Microsoft Suite: Outlook, Excel and Word
  2. Ability to use and navigate end-user software solutions for security monitoring and receipring goods and drayage.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate and manage relationships with diverse internal and external customer groups.
  4. Good knowledge of monitoring systems, recording processes, and playback capabilities and procedures.
  5. Good typing and data entry skills.
