The Loudoun County Health Department is seeking a skilled and motivated Environmental Health Technical Specialist to support the Rabies Program within the Environmental Health Division. This full-time role is critical to safeguarding public health through rabies surveillance, prevention, education, and enforcement. The Specialist will provide technical expertise, guidance to staff, and collaboration with community partners to ensure program effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, and public health policies. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The successful candidate will demonstrate: strong knowledge of public health principles and communicable disease control, particularly rabies and vector-borne diseases; proven leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and support a high-performing team; excellent communication skills and a customer service–oriented approach; ability to manage time-sensitive investigations in a fast-paced environment; experience with data systems and conducting quality assurance reviews; familiarity with state and local public health laws, regulations, and enforcement protocols.
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Public Health, Environmental Health, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field; three (3) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Pass pre-employment background checks to include fingerprinting and DMV checks. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification); additional license(s) if required. Must obtain and maintain active rabies vaccination status (pre-exposure series).
