Customer Service Staff Member

The Prince George's County Trap and Skeet Center is seeking a Customer Service staff member to assist in the daily operations of one of the largest shotgun facilities in the country. This role is vital to ensuring a safe, polite, and efficient environment for our patrons across various clay target sports, including Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays. The center is a public facility owned and operated by the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). Our amenities include a clubhouse, pro shop, 9 Skeet Fields, 6 Trap Fields, 20 Sporting Clay stations, and specialized international fields.

Examples of Important Duties:

  • Safety Enforcement: Educate, monitor, and enforce safe behavior and mandatory eye/ear protection for all patrons.
  • Field Management: Assist in managing Trap, Skeet, or Sporting Clays fields, ensuring patrons are shooting correctly and following game-specific rules.
  • Customer Service: Greet patrons politely, answer phone calls within three rings, and assist shooters with rental gun operations.
  • Operational Readiness: Perform opening and closing duties, including taking inventory of targets, filling machines, cleaning hulls, and emptying trash.
  • Administrative Tasks: Collect tickets from shooters before rounds begin and accurately report daily field counts.
  • Facility Maintenance: Help maintain the cleanliness of the clubhouse, restrooms, and outdoor pavilions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age (required for handling ammo, tickets, or rental equipment).
  • Must possess strong communication skills and a polite demeanor.
  • Ability to work in various outdoor weather conditions.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of shotgun clay target sports (Trap, Skeet, or Sporting Clays).
  • Prior experience in customer service.
  • Possession of a Trap and Skeet First Shot Safety Ticket.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Safety-Minded: Ability to identify and address unsafe acts or gun malfunctions immediately.
  • Attentive: Ability to observe multiple fields and monitor shooter actions closely.
  • Reliable: Proven track record of punctuality and following a strict work schedule.

Supplemental Information:

  • May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
  • Work hours: Seasonal year-round facility. Standard shifts may involve relief at 4:00 pm or evening shifts until shooting ceases at 8:30 pm. Must be available to work weekends, as programs like "First Shot" occur on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Working Conditions/Environment: Shotgun sports take place in all weather conditions, ranging from extreme heat (110°F) to cold winter winds (30°F). Employees must wear provided uniforms and mandatory closed-toe shoes. The environment involves loud noise (gunfire), requiring constant use of ear protection.
  • Supplemental information: Uniforms Provided: Staff shirts and sweatshirts are provided for all employees to ensure a professional image. Background Requirements: Employment is contingent upon a favorable background check.
