Accepts service inquiries and related information from customers by telephone or personal contact.

Accepts money from the public and issues change and receipts.

May audit customer records.

May prepare deposits.

May keep records related to money received and disbursed.

May open mail and process payments.

May reconcile daily receipts.

May notify customers to renew license or certification.

May pick up mail at postal facility and bring into City Hall.

Compiles and distributes invoices for services.

May maintain customer transaction records.

Knowledge of and ability to work with the four functions of mathematics

Some knowledge of basic record-keeping methods

Ability to use a computer to access, interpret, and record information

Ability to accept and respond to a steady volume of requests for information and/or service, both in person and over the telephone

May require ability to use a cordless telephone with headset for all telephone contacts

Ability to access records in file cabinets, books, and/or on microfilm

Ability to understand and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

Ability to lift, carry and re-stack up to 30-pound loads of records, generally contained in shelves boxes or drawers, for up to 10 feet

Ability to access manual files from ground level to overhead reaches, possibly requiring the use of a stool or ladder

Ability to sit for up to 30 minutes of each hour on a stool at a counter

Ability to walk or stand up to 30 minutes of each hour

Ability to repeatedly bend, stoop, turn twist, or kneel in order to file or retrieve multiple records

May require ability to use a calculator with speed and accuracy.

May require ability to count money and make change.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of outside agencies, and the public

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

May require ability to pass assessment test for bilingual skills

May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license

An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace

Required Experience and Training:

A Highschool diploma.

One (1) year of experience in public-facing roles that involve significant customer interaction and maintaining accurate records.

One (1) year of experience in handling cash transactions, including balancing and reconciling cash drawers.

Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass a Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) background investigation.

Attainment of passing scores on pre-employment tests. Candidates with required experience and training will be required to take the following assessments:

Typing - general (5 Minutes Onscreen)

Customer Service Mindset Survey

Cash Handling

Basic Office Skills

Preferred Experience and Training:

One (1) year experience managing a high volume of telephone calls on multiple lines.

One (1) year experience in a municipal or government setting.

Bilingual skills are preferred (or may be required, depending on assignment).

Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check. Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
