The Prince George's County Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Contract Project Coordinator 3H position, grade H17 in the Inspections Division.

This is a senior level professional office/field engineering and administrative position, whereby incumbent reviews engineering/architectural plans and specifications as part of the process to monitor development projects including Fire/EMS construction projects, evaluate related construction problems, and expedite the completion of such projects. Work is performed in accordance with the Fire/EMS Department and County policies and procedures under the general supervision of the Assistant Fire Chief. Work performance is evaluated in terms of timeliness, accuracy, and conformance to established guidelines, rules and regulations in the completion of work assignments.

The mission of the Prince George's County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is to serve our communities with excellence by providing the highest quality of risk reduction, fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and all-hazards response services to enhance the quality of life in Prince George's County.

This position involves:

  • Reviews and coordinates all affiliated Public Facilities with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC)
  • Acts as liaison with other County agencies and State of Maryland agencies involved in construction projects
  • Estimates and budgets assigned projects; serves as Fire/EMS Department representative on Local, State and Federal committees and all Fire Operations Technical concerns
  • Reviews all proposed developments in the County for the Department's operations code compliance
  • Reviews development referrals from M-NCPPC for various considerations; coordinates with the Code Enforcement Unit supervisor
  • Coordinates data updates for inspection duties with other agencies; serves as custodian of Fire Inspection Records under the guideline of the Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA)
  • Leads and motivates subordinates for improved job performance
  • Monitors progress on all delegated work assignments
  • Develops budget estimates and justifications for all Office of Fire Prevention needs, and ensures funding is allotted within the specified guidelines
  • Researches, processes, and analyzes Fire/EMS data to gain insight into problems and established prevention programs
  • Originates detailed reports and correspondences
  • Interfaces with in-house personnel, project architects, engineers, and contractors on various projects
  • Works with the County's Procurement Department in developing purchasing specifications, and inspecting construction materials received

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from college with major course work in structural or civil engineering, architecture, or other fields appropriate to the work
  • Three (3) years of experience in inspection, construction supervision or construction engineering

An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience reviewing engineering/architectural plans and specifications as part of the process to monitor construction projects.
  • Experience evaluating related construction problems and ensuring the completion of projects.
