These positions will be assisting the public applying for permits of all types; assistance with the County Zoning Ordinance processes; assistance with other general County Building Code processes. Assists the public applying for permits and accurately completing any other necessary documentation related to permits.
Responds to building permit and explains permitting procedure to the public.
Acts as the contact person and handles correspondence between the customers, building permit staff, zoning coordinators, and plan reviewers.
Examines construction plans, blue prints, surveys, and specifications on residential / commercial developments in unincorporated DuPage County to ensure compliance with building, drainage, zoning, and codes and ordinances.
Performs basic zoning reviews with limited knowledge of the Zoning Ordinance in conjunction with the permitting process.
Monitors the status of all assigned permit reviews and fees.
Assists customers on the phone and in person with regard to problems and questions.
Processes plan revisions after permits have been issued.
Routes commercial construction plans to appropriate fire protection districts, contracted plan review consultants, townships, and locates parcel numbers.
Processes contractor and contacts agents as needed.
Maintains permit records such as copies of documents, correspondence, insurance certificates, and building department waivers.
Compiles record data to assist inspection staff.
Provides assistance to the Administrative Adjudication Hearing Officers clerk as necessary.
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
Education and/or experience Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma equivalent; four years of experience in customer service work including experience with zoning, building, construction, permitting, plan review; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Use of arm and /or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than for sedentary work.
