Technical Specialist

The Technical Specialist is responsible for the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and reworking of electromechanical and electrical assemblies, components, and exciters, utilizing their proficiency in interpreting work instructions, specifications, engineering drawings, and procedures. They serve as the first point of contact for assembly issues, provide feedback for process improvements, and assist with corrective action investigations, while also training and instructing less experienced operators. The GE Aerospace site in Jacksonville is unique, manufacturing electronic component parts and operating a Repair & Overhaul shop for GE Engines, including engine ignition systems, speed sensors, and harnesses. Our climate-controlled facility embraces diversity and career advancement, supported by 9 active employee resource groups.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities (definition of job):

Assembly and Testing:

  • Build exciters and subcomponents as required, ensuring adherence to dimensional training and proficiency standards.
  • Utilize open test set-ups when test fixtures are not available, and perform testing, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of electromechanical and electrical assemblies using tools such as oscilloscopes and multi-meters.
  • Determine root causes of failures and implement corrective actions, collaborating with Manufacturing Engineers (M.E's) on MDRs to address parts and equipment failures.

Technical Proficiency and Certifications:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in mechanical and electrical skills, including the operation of drill presses, welding, brazing, soldering, and general assembly processes.
  • Maintain certifications in soldering, structural soldering, brazing, welding (class I and II), helium and hot water leak testing, and final inspection.
  • Program burn-in ovens and electrical equipment as required, ensuring compliance with PCB and EXP standards.

Process Improvement and Training:

  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives by providing feedback to Manufacturing Engineers, Design Engineers, and Equipment Services.
  • Assist with corrective action investigations and OEM investigations as required.
  • Understand product flow within the department and assist in reducing bottlenecks to enhance efficiency.
  • Interface with internal customers and suppliers to address assembly issues and provide technical support.
  • Instruct and train less experienced operators, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer within the team.

Competencies:

  • Proficient experience working from work instructions, specifications, engineering drawings, and procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electromechanical and electrical assemblies.
  • Ability to take a hands-on approach and function with limited direction.
  • Excellent communication skills for interfacing with internal customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Certified in various technical skills, including soldering, welding, brazing, and leak testing.

Required Skills / Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of manufacturing experience with product specific to the department.
  • Proficient in blueprint/schematic interpretation (EXP) and electro/mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Proficient mechanical skills with assembly and measuring tools, and strong math skills.
  • Experience with quality guidelines and procedures (PB, EXP), and documenting test data for analysis and problem resolution.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and ERP systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Actively participate in a teaming environment that uses lean and 5S practices to improve products and processes.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Lean Training
  • Associates Degree or certification preferred or relevant electrical work
  • Experience with the operation of Exciter ESS/Burn-In
  • Repair leads, harnesses, loads and related ESS & Burn-in equipment to maximize production usage
