Health Support Technician

Salary: $34,000 - $37,000 annually

Your specific responsibilities include:

• Maintaining all equipment for clinic use, keeping it in good working order.
• Setting up each clinic exam room with the necessary equipment, gowns, gloves, etc.
• Directing patients to exam room; preparing patient for examination or treatment by physician or ARNP.
• Inquiring and documenting reason for visit, complaints and recent hospital visits.
• Taking temperature, pulse, blood pressure, height, and weight as needed.
• Performing blood draws and test on urine specimens for dipstick, pregnancy, drug screen, and Chlamydia/Gonorrhea and records appropriate results on medical chart.
• Assisting during examination of patient.
• Preparing culture slides, hands the MD/ARNP instruments and performs other related duties.
• Assisting nurse with uncooperative patients during immunizations and blood sampling.
• Operating autoclave, sterilizing instruments, dressing supplies, scissors, etc.
• Cleaning clinic rooms, including exam tables, cabinets, and sinks with special disinfectant solutions according to clinic policy and biohazardous waste policy.
• Performing vision and hearing testing as needed.
• Preparing and packaging educational material for clinic use.
• Removing contaminated red bags and containers from each exam room and places them in the biohazard storage room.
• Assisting in the lab to process and prepare specimens for transport, file lab reports, and the follow up of missing/late lab reports.
• Providing screening for the HIV antibody virus and pre and posttest counseling.

Other duties include:

• Inventorying supplies weekly and ordering as needed.
• Assisting with defrosting and cleaning clinic refrigerators for proper drug, vaccine, and specimen storage as needed.
• Assisting with orientation of new employees, students and volunteers assigned to the clinic area.
• Recording temperatures twice daily of the Lab refrigerator and freezer on the temperature log.
• Maintaining time/attendance/travel/EARs records.
• Attending staff meetings, general staff, training, and committee meetings in compliance with Health Department policies.
• Performing other duties as required, including performance of additional interpreter duties, consistent with skill level, and as needed.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Knowledge of basic pharmaceutical terminology.
• Knowledge of basic computer software and electronic health records.
• Knowledge of instrument decontamination and sterilization.
• Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment.
• Skill in using a urine select analyzer.
• Skill in taking, temperature, pulse and blood pressure readings.
• Skill in performing various lab testing.
• Ability to work with patients.
• Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

• Valid Florida Driver's License.
• Current Certification as a CNA, MA or Phlebotomy.
