The responsibility of this position is to provide health support functions in a comprehensive health care setting under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse Supervisor. Participates in clinical and clerical functions. All of the following duties require accuracy, safety, positive customer and team interactions, and adherence to protocol, polices, and procedures at all times. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

- Ensures positive communication and interactions with internal and external customers while performing clinical and clerical functions.
- Ensures interactions and communications with clients and team members are positive, accurate, and clear. Takes initiative to listen and understand the views of others.
- Responsible for the collection of laboratory specimens, performing venipuncture and other laboratory tests. Uses two patient identifiers to identify correct patient. Completes electronic or manual requisitions for laboratory tests as applicable. Labels and dates each specimen correctly. Consistently completes laboratory log documentation. Performs quality controls at the beginning of each day. Monitors refrigerator temperature twice daily.
- Obtains height, weight, blood pressure, and other special procedures as requested by the medical provider or indicated by protocol, and documents appropriately on client's medical record. Maintains awareness of patient allergies. Assists Medical Provider with examinations and treatments as requested, abiding by preventive health standards outlined in operating protocol. Complies with biohazardous waste policy. Maintains lab tracking form and comply with lab tracking policy. Keeps current of any laboratory policy changes and discuss with supervisor for clarity as needed.
- Monitors all clinic logs for compliance: Laboratory log, Quality Control, Pregnancy Tests, IPO, Hypertension, Diabetes, etc. As needed, will be required to cover clinics outside of your normal work area when staffing shortages are recognized which may include traveling to another clinic location. Works cooperatively with other DOH-Duval units and outside agencies (JASMYN House) as needed.

- Takes initiative to perform inventory for laboratory supplies and orders items as needed. Performs inventory of medical supplies in exam rooms and notifies appropriate staff for ordering as soon as possible. Supplies are required to be always maintained to ensure client services are not disrupted. Pulls medical records for laboratory results and provider's review. Scans and attaches medical records to electronic health record. Ensures positive communication when answering telephones and assists with telephone messages as appropriate. Attends in-service education, staff meetings and health promotion activities as directed or indicated, and other related duties as requested. Ensures accurate and timely submission of Employee Leave and Attendance Records and Employee Activity Records (EAR's). Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Phlebotomy skills as well as administering IM and Subcutaneous injections.
- Knowledge of basic computer software.
- Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment.
- Skill in taking and reading blood pressure.
- Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Ability to distribute prescribed medications.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Able to provide direct patient care services of a medical nature in a public health, medical or clinical setting
Minimum: Must have experience in a clinic/physician office setting or hospital setting. Proficient in phlebotomy Must have a valid driver's license.
