Job Purpose: This role oversees the maintenance, optimization, and modernization of AS400 systems within the bank.

It involves ensuring the reliability and efficiency of AS400 operations, implementing best practices, and driving initiatives to enhance system performance. Additionally, the Senior Manager collaborates with various departments to align AS400 functionalities with business goals, mentors junior staff, and stays updated on industry advancements to continuously improve AS400 capabilities.

Main Responsibilities:

• Operating System Management:
• Install, configure, and maintain AS400 operating systems and related software.
• Ensure system security by implementing appropriate security measures, such as OS hardening and patches.
• Perform regular system backups and implement disaster recovery procedures.
• Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to protect critical data from system failures or disasters.
• Ensuring seamless integration between the AS/400 system and other systems or applications, such as web servers, databases…etc.

System Performance and Troubleshooting:

• Monitor system performance and identify and troubleshoot issues, such as system crashes, slow response times, and resource utilization.
• Analyzing system performance data, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing optimization strategies to ensure the AS/400 system operates efficiently.

Storage Management:

• Allocating and managing storage resources, such as disk drives, tape libraries, and file systems. This includes tasks like configuring RAID arrays, monitoring disk utilization, and performing backups and restores.

User and Access Management:

• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.

Security Management:

• Implementing and maintaining robust security measures, such as managing user access controls, configuring network settings, and monitoring for potential security threats or breaches.

Software Management:

• Install and configure software applications and services on AS400 systems.

Automation and Scripting:

• Configuring and managing job scheduling and automation tools to streamline routine tasks and ensure the timely execution of critical processes.
• Automate system administration tasks using scripting languages.

Collaboration and Integration:

• Collaborate with other teams, such as network administrators and database administrators, to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems.

Professional Development:

• Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in AS400 system administration.

Requirements:

Education and Qualification:

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is often preferred.
• Formal training or certifications in IBM i (AS/400) system administration are highly valued.
• Technical Certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator, or IBM Certified System Architect is desirable.

Work Experience:

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience in IBM i (AS/400) system administration or a similar role.
• Experience in managing complex IT infrastructure, including storage, networking, and security.

Technical Skills:

• Proficient in IBM i (AS/400) operating system administration, including managing user accounts, security, backup, and recovery.
• Strong understanding of IBM i hardware components and their configurations.
• Expertise in storage management, including disk, tape, and SAN technologies.
• Familiarity with networking protocols and configurations, including TCP/IP, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Ability to automate and script various system administration tasks using tools like IBM i Control Language (CL) or PowerShell.
• Experience with IBM i monitoring and performance tuning tools.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and testing.
