Referral Laboratory Testing Supervisor

Oversee and manage the operation of the Referral Laboratory testing with regard to personnel and coordination of all sample transportation and resulting for testing sent to reference labs. Responsibilities include supervising the operations of Reference Lab Testing by organizing work and directing staff so that all tasks are accomplished. Schedules staff coverage. Functions as the subject matter expert for Reference Laboratory testing (i.e., specimen processing requirements) for both the Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Laboratories. Recommends and implements system changes to increase efficiency and accuracy of workflow. With Lab Management, hires, orients, trains, evaluates and disciplines staff to build a team and assure quality of service. Assesses annual competency for the Laboratory Technical Aides and performs annual performance reviews. Maintains a procedure manual to use as a reference guide for providing service to assure consistency of operations. Is responsible for collaboration with the LIS team in the creation of new tests, when appropriate, and ensuring testing is appropriately being reported in the patients electronic medical record. Collaborates with reference labs to ensure that the appropriate testing and billing is accounted for to ensure appropriate reimbursement. Responsible for the oversight of all billing functions for miscellaneous testing entry so billing can be generated. Prepares monitors, quality and performance indicators/volumes as defined. Participates in the Quality Assurance program and department management meetings when applicable to promote continuous quality/performance improvement. Communicates effectively with the Lab Management for proper follow-up of pending issues and performs audits as defined by Lab Management. Oversees work procedures and monitors activities to ensure a safe environment for employees. Maintain and model Nuvance Health Values. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance. Performs other duties as required.
