Director Strategy Implementation

The Director, Strategy & Implementation leads a dynamic team responsible for translating vision into action. This role bridges strategic design, program development, research, and business development to ensure initiatives are not only well-crafted but deeply impactful.

The Director stewards the incubation of new ideas, pilots transformative models, and guides the implementation of agency-wide strategies that advance opportunity and belonging across the Greater Houston region.

Essential Functions

Strategy Development & Incubation

  • Lead the design and refinement of strategic initiatives aligned with BakerRipley's mission, values, and long-term goals
  • Facilitate cross-functional strategy labs and incubation sessions to surface bold ideas and co-create solutions
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable frameworks, pilots, and scalable models

Program Design & Implementation

  • Develop detailed implementation plans with clear milestones, resource mapping, and success metrics
  • Partner with program teams to ensure alignment, readiness, and capacity for execution
  • Monitor initiative progress, troubleshoot barriers, and adapt strategies in real time

Strategic Portfolio Monitoring & Momentum Building

  • Oversee the full portfolio of strategic initiatives across the agency, ensuring visibility, alignment, and progress
  • Work closely with the VP to identify and remove roadblocks, accelerate decision-making, and maintain momentum
  • Convene initiative leads to share learnings, surface challenges, and foster cross-pollination of ideas

Organizational Learning & Knowledge Management

  • Collaborate with the Director, Data Strategy to embed research, evaluation, and learning into all phases of strategy
  • Conduct landscape scans, stakeholder interviews, and data analysis to inform strategic direction
  • Co-design learning agendas and feedback loops that surface insights, drive iteration, and support continuous improvement
  • Translate data into compelling narratives that inform decision-making and amplify impact

Business Development & Opportunity Scouting

  • Identify and assess new funding, earned revenue, fee-for-service, and partnership opportunities aligned with strategic priorities
  • Collaborate with Public Grants and Development teams to craft compelling proposals and pitches
  • Cultivate relationships with public, philanthropic, and private sector partners to support initiative sustainability

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and coach Strategy Specialists and cross-functional project teams
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, accountability, and adaptive learning
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to senior leaders and program directors

Education

Required

Bachelors or better in Business Administration or related field.

Preferred

Masters or better.

Experience

Required

7 years: Minimum of 7 years of experience in strategic planning, program design, or organizational development, preferably in mission-driven or community-based settings.
