Junior Support Technician

Supervisor: Director of Technology, Assistant Director of Information

Job Goals:

  • To provide excellent technical service for school system technology hardware by facilitating a variety of technical duties including repair and maintenance of computers, printers, and other technology equipment.
  • To efficiently install basic technology hardware.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Ability to install network switches, wireless access points and interactive displays.
  3. Ability to install data cabling.
  4. Ability to diagnose problems with basic technology hardware.
  5. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  6. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  7. Written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate basic technical concepts.
  8. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; agility and dexterity needed to stoop, bend, lift/move equipment (computers and/or peripherals, etc.) when necessary and to perform technical equipment inspections and/or repairs, including the inspection of cabling in floors and ceilings.
  9. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
  10. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  2. Advocates, supports, promotes, and communicates all aspects of the Jefferson County School System technology programs, services and initiatives.
  3. Works within the school system community to promote excellent customer service, effective response times and provide expert insights into general support issues.
  4. Implements plans for replacing and upgrading school system and local school computer hardware.
  5. Provides users with efficient, effective, courteous and timely technical support.
  6. Manages accurate parts and equipment inventories in accordance with school system financial procedures.
  7. Works with-instructional technology team to implement plans for technology upgrades and deployments.
  8. Performs hardware maintenance.
  9. Diagnoses problems and repairs computers.
  10. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  11. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  12. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  13. Participates successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership.
  14. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  15. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  16. Maintains tools, equipment, and parts in good repair; efficiently uses time and system resources.
  17. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
  18. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  19. Performs other work-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
