Terms: 240-day position paid following the board-approved salary schedule

Job Goal

  • To provide excellent technical service for school system computer systems by performing various skilled and technical duties, including installing, repairing, altering, and maintaining computers, printers, and other peripheral equipment.
  • To systematically and accurately inspect, isolate, and diagnose system malfunctions to determine appropriate repair procedures, replace defective parts, and restore equipment to proper operation.
  • To efficiently install and configure school system laptops, desktops, and mobile hardware and software.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Two years of computer hardware and data communications equipment installation and maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  4. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  5. Technical certifications in applicable area of specialty preferred; ability to acquire such certification(s) as needed.
  6. Knowledge of Apple and Microsoft Operating Systems and Applications and other systems as applicable.
  7. A+ certification or acquiring A+ certification within 90 days of employment.
  8. Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues/products as required.
  9. Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate complex technical concepts.
  10. Ability to lift to 50 pounds; agility and dexterity needed to stoop, bend, lift/move equipment (computers and/or peripherals, etc.) when necessary; and to perform technical equipment inspections and/or repairs, including inspecting cabling in floors and ceilings.
  11. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
  12. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  13. Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  2. Advocates, supports, promotes, and communicates all aspects of the Pike Road School System technology programs, services, and initiatives.
  3. Works within the school system community to promote excellent customer service and effective response times and provide expert insights into general support issues.
  4. Enforces quality of service guidelines for dealing with customers, completing services, and overall customer satisfaction.
  5. Implements plans for replacing and upgrading the school system and local school computer hardware and software, including installing computer terminals, controllers, computer workstations, printers, optical scanners, data communications equipment, and other related devices.
  6. Provides users with efficient, effective, courteous and timely technical support.
  7. Performs bulk imaging of equipment/machines when leases are refreshed.
  8. Orders and receives necessary parts and manages accurate parts inventories.
  9. Works with the educational technology team to identify and implement technology upgrades and deployment plans.
  10. Replaces and/or repairs parts of computer hardware, including performing diagnostic tests and troubleshooting to determine if problems are hardware or software problems.
  11. Scans systems for viruses.
  12. Performs hardware and system maintenance.
  13. Diagnoses problems; replaces/installs computer components (i.e., screens, keyboards, video cards, hard drives, power supplies, etc.); repairs and upgrades computers (Apple, PC, Chromebook, etc.).
  14. Serves as a technical liaison with technology staff and school technology representative(s).
  15. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  16. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  17. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  18. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  19. Participates in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase job performance and leadership skills and proficiency.
  20. Serves on school/system committees as required or appropriate, demonstrating effective interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  21. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints promptly and positively.
  22. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  23. Maintains tools, equipment, and parts in good repair; efficiently uses time and system resources. Adheres to school system rule
  24. Reports absences and takes leave following Board policies and procedures.
  25. Performs other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Physical Requirements: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

Evaluation: Job performance will be evaluated according to the provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Pike Road Board of Education policy on personnel evaluation.
