Principal Security Technical Account Manager

Customers rely on our platform to secure their most critical infrastructure. In this role you will drive impact by mapping complex API ecosystems, assessing exposure, identifying advanced attack patterns, and translating indicators of compromise into executive-level insights.

Principal Security Technical Account Managers operate as trusted technical advisors to senior customer stakeholders and internal leadership. You will lead API security engagements, drive long-term security outcomes, and influence how Akamai delivers value across its API Security portfolio.

As a Principal Technical Account Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Owning the technical success strategy for Akamai's largest and most complex API Security customers, from onboarding through long-term value realization
  • Acting as a senior technical advisor to customer security, architecture, and engineering leadership, influencing roadmap alignment and security posture decisions
  • Leading deep technical engagements, including advanced API discovery, threat modeling, exposure analysis, and attack investigations
  • Identifying true-positive attacks, trends, and indicators of compromise, and communicating risk and impact clearly to both technical and executive audiences
  • Serving as a SME in API and application security, guiding customers on best practices aligned to OWASP Top 10 (API included)
  • Driving cross-functional alignment by providing structured customer feedback to Product Management, Engineering, and Support on enhancements, escalations, and systemic issues
  • Influencing internal strategy by identifying recurring customer challenges and shaping enablement, tooling, and engagement models

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have 8-12+ years of experience in security, application security, API security, cloud security, or a related technical customer-facing role
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Demonstrate deep expertise in API vulnerabilities, attack techniques, and defensive strategies, including OWASP Top 10 and OWASP API Top 10
  • Possess dedicated knowledge of modern cloud architectures and cybersecurity solutions, with a focus on API-driven environments
  • Understand application security principles and how they integrate into the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Be able to proactively identify systemic issues and drive solutions across organizational boundaries

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $142,300 - $295,700/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
